While Yoga isn’t just about twisting one’s body into an intricate pretzel or doing headstands or balancing acts, it is certainly a part of the practice of Yoga. You may just start off with simple yoga asanas (yoga poses) like the downward facing dog and simple back bends, but with regular practice your flexibility, balance and strength improves drastically allowing you explore and try some harder postures.
Here’s a look at some advanced yoga poses that look a little extreme yet make yoga so damn cool-

These guys are blissfully relaxed? idk i would not be most-likely in that stature only because my organs on the inside of my would be yelling at me saying HEAR ME I AM YOUR KIDNEY AND I AM ABOUT TO MULTIPLY WA WA WAA.. perhaps if you were to take all the orchistrated fragments of flawlessly placed together pieces of matter out of me, then put them nicely somewhere else for if it was another way it would truly defeat the purpose of this moving maneuver.and only if i may be forced to do a pose or 2 dependent on the will of my bodys user at this particular time that would be the only time you would see me like that. anyways, these guys are Crazy good at what they do and my point being that i cannot see how This “Bliss bringer” of a sport might come from these spleen splitting poses.

One woman appears to be levitating — she is not touching the ground. “So damn cool” is right!

This isn’t even yoga. It seems that yoga is just equated with performance of stunts these days. Yoga actually means becoming one with the Almighty. Bhagavad Gita describes a unified outlook, serenity of mind, skill in action and the ability to stay attuned to the glory of the Self (Atman) and the Supreme Being (Bhagavan) as yoga. It does contain some poses, but they aren’t just meaningless postures. Every posture has a spiritual interpretation associated with it.
All this isn’t even yoga. Meditation is true yoga. By the way, its pronounced as “yog” not “yogA” as most people do.
As a Hindu, I’ve read about yoga in our holy scriptures and find its western interpretation extremely disheartening.

The Pose with the woman on her fingertips is not true. She’s prob transitioning from one pose to another. That is misleading bcos it makes ppl believe that they can do that…I like Divya Aggarwal’s sentiments on most of these. All that being said, the postures are beautiful and congrats to the people in the pics. U inspire me. I hope you observe your yama’s and Niyama’s also.

Actually, these are not that difficult. A few years of yoga and you’re there. Well, except the pose with the woman with her feet under her chin…very difficult. The person “floating” is doing a jumping chaturanga. An advanced yoga move to be sure…but not impossible.
And yes, true yoga is not about asana, true yogi and yogini’s practice yoga to be able to sit in meditation and find the divine within.
namaste.
