With finlike fingers….feel each ocean wave’s ripple
I may not have legs…but don’t call me crippled
Ride the tides; flowing flaps of my fin
Dive deep down to the depths of my emotional bin
And just as the hidden realms found deep in the ocean,
My energy overflows with mystery and emotions
My Water World; A healing domain to cure and heal
In a mermaid’s pose on the shore I kneel
…and just like a mermaid…sea colors and shells are my fashion
A dreamy damsel dressed in hope, soul, and compassion
A fish pulled from its watery home onto dry ground
Is a fish out of water…in an aquarium silent of sound.

PEACEFUL …HOLIDAY

This poem is a holiday gift from Jaclyn Ianetti
I come to you when you’re relaxed
A true, serene state
Cool, calm, collected
No room for hate
I’m with you when you’re lounging
Nap, sleep, and dreams
No worries for tomorrow
Living in the moment is what it seems
Quit the fights, I keep the harmony
On a light hearted scale
No heightened colors
I’d call me quite pale
No air of complexity, simple and plain
Easy going nature
Trouble free, no pain
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Wintery white, shoe prints
Sink in the plush texture
Hides the green bottom layer
Blankets over like a brand new white bedspread
Stained window glare of poinsettias, grapes, gold
Pearly pink, burgundy balls hang
White lights, cinnamon bronzed pinecone
Stuck, intertwined in holly green branches
Enthralled in festive décor
Stand for a moment in silence
In awe, of the magic this season brings
Take small steps, walking slowly to the door
Closer to the window of the spirited symbol spins
Value the beauty from far away
Carry it with me as I approach
Open doors invite in to warmth of loved ones

Whether it be for friendship or for love
Apparent will be your compatibility
Like you turned a corner and hit a wall
A feeling of deep and natural affinity
You feel closer to this certain soul
Attraction into each other’s lives
Sharing a spot on the same scale of frequency
Chasing this idea as it is in full wheel drive
That is the most favorable type
To be one of romantic
Some one, somewhere
Will put you away from the wondering frantic
Butterflies flutter in the stomach
Feeling sick with excitement
Sparksfly into a two way connection
The mystery solved into enlightenment
Once you find your soul mate
It is something you will not miss
For it will be your heart’s true love
And your true love’s kiss

Summer Fish

Solstice goddess
Silver Mist
Domain is hearth, home, and bliss
Winter I freeze over solid ice
Waiting for the summer’s blaze to melt my
Element, and myself, back into a puddle of happiness
A dancing mermaid in the waves that crash
Lure you in closer, siren singing to entrance
Like a magnet’s pull is your curiosity
Brings you deeper to my spot in the sea
Otherworldly in nature
Don’t be afraid of this Pisces stranger
Come swim with me, be as free
Glide with the currents of the deep blue sea
Freedom down to the sun fading gray
The sandy shore, as calm, no words to say
I’ll be the moonshine, never leave the sunlight
Stars are dying into each ripple in the night
I teach you to live, have no direction
Shows wonder in the face of your reflection
Overwhelming sense to liberate
No boundaries, no walls, a chance to follow fate
Now you see for what my fin allows no restriction
To float in a world with no gravity, no friction
Boundless and open, go with the flow
Awash in happiness, a blissful glow
I pity as I watch your feet hit the land
Such delight before you reached sand
While I stay playful in the whirling water’s foam
How lucky to call this place, my home

An Ode to Motherhood
July 19, 2011 by svetlana
An angel once asked god “oh lord! What are you making?”
God answered “I am making a mother.”
So the angel asked again “my lord! What is a mother?”
And this is what god said:
“Since I cannot be everywhere, I am made a mother.
She is the one, who suffers the pain of birth,
Only to bring a new life to earth.
Her bosom is warm when it’s cold outside,
It’s where you can keep your secrets safely inside.
She doesn’t need words to speak,
Her eyes give you strength when you are meek.
The touch of her hand is the best life insurance,
Which gives you full cover without a premium.
She infantilizes you even when you become a dad,
Even then when you come home late, she gets mad.
She can touch your face to assure you of your weight loss,
And can barge into your office even when you’re the boss.
The pillows in the house reek of her,
The smell of her wet hair keeps the evil at bay.
A magical hug from her helps you find the right way.
She is the lighthouse in the storm that protects from the rocks,
She has tears in her eyes when the baby walks.
She can’t remember she herself is how old,
Only to remember when did you have your first cold.
So remember to give her some of the love back,
Because a mother is tireless and can never lack.”
The angel had tears in her eyes and said “oh lord! I wish I could have a mother too, who
Could love me like you just said.”
And then came god’s final reply “we aren’t that lucky dear, a mother is not god, not human, a mother
is magic”.

Poem: The Spiderwoman – Part I

“The Spiderwoman – Part I”
by Bob Almodovar
___________
Her beauty pulled at me like tentacles hooked
to my breast, reeling me in closer, my skin
tearing as I resisted her entrancing gaze
with feeble attempts.
I turned my head away for a second only to
feel her radiance on my cheek, stinging my
face like cheap cologne. Our eyes locking,
she punctured my armor with a subtle smile.
My breath quickened as I moved nearer,
watching her cross her legs to reveal luscious
thighs beneath her red silk dress. I swallowed
deeply as I entered her sphere of influence.
There was no turning back.
My heart pumped in my throat as I moved in
for the kill, the sweat rolling down my back.
Her smile waned slightly as I leaned towards
her, asking, “Do we know each other?”. “I
don’t believe so”, she said coldly, “I thought
you were someone else.”
Uncrossing her legs, she promptly arose and
headed for the Ladies Room. With mouth agape,
I stood and watched her go, as fifty eyes
examined the battle site for casualties. I
had taken one in the ego and was sinking fast.
All I could hope for was to reach homeport
quickly, to close these open wounds. But, I
promise that the next time I meet the
Spiderwoman, victory will be mine.

Poem: The Spiderwoman – Part II

“The Spiderwoman – Part II”
by Bob Almodovar
___________
The night was young and yet the blow was
struck that drew first blood and said to all
that love wars raged on.
She stood alone, cheeks flushed like beets,
and faced the looking glass. Wasn’t long ago
that soccer sons took precedence, but now,
a red silk dress, much tighter than she’d hoped.
How quickly life can turn about: a found note,
unexplained receipts, and a marriage is lost.
So now a pounding heart, an opening line,
and the dating game begins.
The silent stares watched every move, as she
walked back to her seat. And whispers then replaced
the stares, much louder than the music played.
Deterred she was not, for this was life to be from
this day on.
On deep inhale, she scanned the room, while
at the bar, her target stood. With wounded hopes,
he downed a draft, then another for the road. As
if entranced, he caught her gaze and took a moment
to compose.
With long slow strides, towards her he moved, heart
peering from her throat. So tense her face, she could
not smile, as he moved so ever close. Her ruby lips
swelled with nervous anticipation.
Within a few feet, forward he leaned, “Hey Joe”, smiling
he said. “Say Jack, how’s things”, replied the voice behind.
“It’s all good”, he answered, “It’s all good “, glancing at her.
With a wink he turned and made his escape as
she watched amazed, humiliation dripping from her cheeks,
and grinning faces reflected on her glass.
Her pride in ruins, she dashed for sanctuary in the Ladies
Room. He eluded the sting of The Spiderwoman this time,
and dealt her a telling blow. But, when next they meet,
both will be ready.

Poem: The Spiderwoman – Part III

“The Spiderwoman – Part III”
by Bob Almodovar
___________
It’s been too many nights in too many bistros,
downing drafts like liquid manna, purging that
image of the Spiderwoman from my very soul,
with failed attempts.
I still envision her luminous gaze beckoning
to me from across the room, like a lighthouse
in a dense fog, guiding me safely home to her
breast.
If not for this self-important, pride-ridden ego,
that struck that blow, that won the battle, that lost
the war, I might now find myself immersed in the
sweet wine liquid of her eyes.
And across town, a lone figure sat and nursed a
drink in silence, as man after man approached
with the usual hellos, and a “hey beautiful” or two,
that drew a vapid smile and a stare a hundred
miles long.
Though she was wounded from their last encounter,
he had taken residence in her thoughts, and tugged
gently at her heart. Though suitors she lacked not,
a man with self-regard, as he, would serve to
spark her life.
And having pride of her own, she had not returned
to where last they had encountered. To her, he was a
strong warrior. To him, she was a worthy opponent.
They could not stay away for too much longer.
And, as if by magic, a tall figure pushed open the
door and headed for the bar. The Spiderwoman,
in an instant, turned and focused her laser-like gaze
on the man. It was Jack.
Clutching the stein in one hand, and leaning on the
other, I felt a hot sting on my neck that yanked my
head around. There she was, more seductive than ever.
This time she will be mine, on my own terms.

Poem: The Spiderwoman – Part IV

“The Spiderwoman – Part IV”
by Bob Almodovar
___________
A slow jazzy sax wailed over the hum of talking voices.
I stood with my back to the bar as if to launch myself,
my eyes never breaking from hers. This time I was going
for it.
He was a regular guy like any other there that night,
though the years amassed around his waist, and once
broad shoulders sagged a bit. Life had not been kind:
lost loves, a bad marriage, and a daughter seldom seen.
She sat legs crossed, eyes glued to his. It took all she
had not to look away. This was no come on or girlish
flirtation, but a final attempt at this thing called love.
Jack sparked those feelings within her like no other had in
years.
Gulping the last of his draft, he slammed down the stein
and took a step forward. Just then a vision crossed his
mind of an angry ex, suitcase in one hand, tugging at his
daughter with the other, as the little girl’s screams were
heard down the block. He paused for a moment wiping his
brow, and then continued.
As he came closer, her jaw trembled noticeably. Looking away
for a split second, she regained her composure, and with a
smile, resumed her gaze. Arriving at her table, he searched
for some witty comment.
Though never introduced, they were not strangers. Each
wore the battle scars of love wars proudly, like medals of
honor. Each could sense that they were similar, no-nonsense
individuals. “Hi, I’m Jack”. “Nice to meet you, I’m Sarah”.
Jack would never refer to Sarah again as the Spiderwoman.

“Part Of Me”
by Bob Almodovar
___________
Rover died today.
I was with him when last he smiled,
Open-mouthed the way dogs do,
His deep set tired eyes closing
As he lay his head down, and was gone.
A single tear slid down my cheek,
Rolled along my chin, and jumped
To the floor where my old friend lay still.
I stroked his furry head one last time.
I was strong even when I placed Rover
Beneath the old oak in the rear yard,
Wrapped in his old blanket, with some favorite toys.
I was strong even when recalling
The wobbly-legged week old pooch, who
Fought a gallant fight against my worn slipper.
It was only after my dear wife, who, returning
From the market, asked how Rover was doing,
That a flood of tears overtook my stoic demeanor.
For there beneath the old oak in the rear yard,
Lay a part of me, never to be replaced again.
